On April 26, 2022 Fort Worth, Texas launched a pilot program to become the first U.S. city to mine Bitcoin. Fort Worth's City Council unanimously approved the decision and will hold a six month trial to assess the program. The city will reevaluate the project in early October.

The City is partnering with the Texas Blockchain Council who will be donating three S9 Bitcoin Miners. “By starting small to learn as they go, Fort Worth is positioning itself to be the Bitcoin mining capital of Texas,” says Lee Bratcher, the president of the Texas Blockchain Council. The S9 Bitcoin Miners will be in a climate controlled environment at the Fort Worth City hall and on a private network for security. Each machine will use the same amount of energy as a "household vacuum cleaner" according to the city.

S9 Bitcoin Miners are commonly known as "Beginner" mining rigs and this seems like a good fit considering the program is currently a trial. After Fort Worth experiences the benefits of Crypto mining it is hard to believe they won't look into a longer term mining program. It is only a matter of time before other U.S. cities will follow in Fort Worth's footsteps!

After China banned Crypto last year, Texas has became an even more clear leader in the Crypto space. Miners were no longer able to take advantage of the cheap renewable energy China has to offer.  “Texas is increasingly being recognized as the global leader in bitcoin and blockchain, and Fort Worth will have a seat at that table,” said Robert Sturns, Fort Worth's city economic development director. This is yet another reason to be bullish on the future of Crypto in Texas and in the United States overall.
